Where experience meets intent

Chartwell Investment Partners manages active equity, fixed income, and balanced strategies for institutional and advisory clients via separate accounts, sub-advisory relationships, and mutual funds. Our Portfolio Managers and Analysts believe in the importance of intensive bottom-up research and evaluate each company on the basis of its fundamental characteristics.

Our four investment teams take a unique approach to portfolio construction which results in a wide range of solutions-based investment strategies. This successful approach has helped us build deep relationships with our clients, consultants, and distribution partners for over a quarter of a century.

Conviction

We believe that actively managed strategies with high conviction and lower turnover will generate a consistent pattern of portfolio returns over the long term. Our Portfolio Managers take a long-term perspective with their investments, maintain focused portfolios, and strive for increased active share of their holdings to deliver investment performance. Our investment strategies reflect the highest conviction ideas of our Portfolio Managers.

Culture

Over the course of our 25+ year history, Chartwell’s philosophy has been to cultivate an environment of opportunity and inclusion. In our commitment to serving our clients and stakeholders, we understand that we have an ethical responsibility to promote a collaborative environment of fairness and respect. We believe that attracting and retaining employees who come from a wide range of backgrounds and have different thoughts, opinions and life experiences plays a critical role in successfully serving our clients through an objective lens. Our goal is to ensure that Chartwell, as a workplace, creates an environment in which our employees feel understood, connected to our culture and supported in pursuing their own individual goals.

Stability

Similar to the companies we invest in, we believe that experienced and tenured management teams are a foundation for success. At Chartwell, our tenured Portfolio Management teams have low turnover and extensive industry experience.

Community

As part of our commitment to community involvement, Chartwell partners with Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School. Cristo Rey is a network of college preparatory Catholic schools with 38 locations across the U.S. There are currently more than 12,000 students and 23,100 alumni nationwide.

Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School began in 2012 and received their Middle States Certification in 2021. Students attending Cristo Rey receive top-quality education with minimal to no-cost to students’ families and have a 100% likelihood of being admitted to college. In addition to an education, students are offered wrap-around counseling services, affordable access to college, and will also be provided with additional support through college graduation. Cristo Rey also offers a wide range of clubs and competitive athletic programs for students.

One highlight for students is Cristo Rey’s Work Study Program, where they partner with Philadelphia area businesses to provide students with real-life job experience one day a week. Some of the goals in this program are to have students learn and implement life skills through their experience in the workplace, gain confidence, and receive real work experience while gaining exposure to various industries.

Chartwell began its exciting partnership with Cristo Rey in 2020 and is one of over 90 businesses in the Philadelphia area that sponsor students in this program. Students from freshman to senior year work in our office each week and are mentored by Chartwell employees at all levels of the organization. Our students are taught about what we do and may sit with their mentors to see what a typical day in the investment management industry looks like. The students may also be assigned various projects to help them learn our industry and even help us! Each Fall we look forward to meeting our new (and sometimes returning) students as they start their school year.
